Which should I choose? DSL or cable?

Answered By Daren Edgewood, Editor

There are a lot of question regarding DSL and cable. They ask questions regarding speed, price and availability. Theoretically, cable can carry more bandwidth, thus, can provide more speed. However, cable signals deteriorate rapidly when under heavy usage. So, if you are living in a populated area, it is advisable to use DSL. Pricing between DSL and cable today are pretty much the same.

In terms of availability, cable can provide where DSL cannot. However, most of the areas where DSL cannot cover are also not served by cable.

To get broadband Internet in rural areas, you can call several DSL and cable internet providers and inquire if they can serve the area where you live in.
