Cable Internet?

Can you answer paperpenandtea’s question about DSL?:

I am a complete dunce when it comes to this stuff so let me lay it out here:
I use Netzero for my dial-up internet (yep, living in the stone age still!). I live in Canada. So, I want to upgrade and get cable internet.
My questions:
*Whom do I call to get the cable whatsits hooked up (I don’t even know what they do). I live in an apt building and the cable tv/net people who I see coming are from shaw. Also our local telephone company does internet too.
*Can I call either one of those even though I am not using their service for my cable internet?

Thanks!

DSL Feedback: I’m not absolutely positive about this, but I believe you need to have the cable TV service to get cable internet, Just call the cable company to find out. Also, if your phone company is offering broadband internet, it’s probably DSL (Digital Service Line) which for most intents and purposes is just as fast Call the telephone company to find out about that one.

DSL Feedback: if you have cable t.v….they can give you a package deal on internet and t.v…you won’t need NetZero ( you will be paying more for cable, but it’s worth it…)

DSL Feedback: I would go through Shaw or Rogers. I have tons of family in Canada and I lived there for a year in TO and I used Rogers. Cable internet is worth it.

You can call whoever you want.

DSL Feedback: you should get verizon’s FioS or time warner cable’s internet service. you might not have it so ask your phone provider for more details. you can call anyone at the phone place and they wil be happy to redirect you to the right place

DSL Feedback: Since I live in Florida, I use Comcast (cable-internet) connection. I don’t know what companies service your particular area, so I would suggest you “google” INTERNET CONNECTIONS and/or CABLE, BROADBAND, OR DSL CONNECTION –

You will love cable connecting. You will never go back to dial-up. Due to some storms here my (Internet) cable got zapped and I couldn’t get it repaired for 3 days! I was going crazy! I used MSN’s dial-up service (NO WAY I was using AOL!!) MSN’s service is, in my opinion, is the worst one of that type – NEVER use MSN (or AOL)!!

So, try “googling” Comcast or Clearwire too.

Be prepared, though, cable connection is NOT AT ALL cheap!! I pay almost $60 a month (I don”t have cable TV or I could have gotten a package deal – big whoop!)

But I wouldn’t trade it for all the tea in China! It’s so worth it!

DSL Feedback: You bet you can call them. They are just itching to get your call. Call both; don’t make a commitment until all of your questions have been answered. I have used 3 different cable internet providers in 2 different cities (US). Cable internet is great. Some are better than others. An example is Time Warner (Road Runner)–they were great. Always available, fixed every problem (few problems). My current city in which I live does not have Time Warner but, so far, my current ISP has held up. If you see Shaw trucks in your area, ask a neighbor who uses them. I research as much as I can on the web before I call an internet provider. You will want to know price, particularly. If they have a special for new users, make sure you ask them how long the special price lasts and what the amount will be when the special expires. Also, what do they charge for installation. Road Runner installation was free (can you believe it in this day in age?). My current provider, however, cost me about $65.00 for installation. A lot of providers have telephone and tv service, as well. You can get a break if you use all three services. But, again, research what they offer, ask questions and best of all talk to someone who uses the services. Good luck.
