I am planning to subscribe to an ISP but would like to find out which connection “wireless” or “DSL” suits my needs.
I am using a laptop at present to do my computing needs and connecting to the internet through a GPRS connection on my mobile phone. the costs of using this method are quite high at present so I would like to consider other ways of connecting.

I had problems with my DSL connection before. A technician was sent in and he worked on it. He worked on a phone jack in the basement where my previous room used to be and the internet works fine if the DSL modem is plugged into there. However, if I bring the modem upstairs and plug it into another phone jack, the connection does not work. Any suggestions?

I think this should be pretty easy but can’t figure it out. In my living room I have one phone jack and I want to connect both a fax machine and my DSL modem to it. I bought a splitter for the phone jack and while this handles the DSL model fine I can’t get a dial tone on other jack of the splitter for the fax machine to use to send/receive. Any ideas as to what I can try here?

In other words, if you have a PC with an external DSL modem, and on the opposite wall is the power box, or the A/C condenser, can these potentially cause breaks in the DSL signal? (e.g. loss of connection when the air kicks on, or when many electronic sources are running?)
